Data Usage and Caps

data-caps.md · 5 sections · ~237 words

Data Allowances by Plan

  • Nova Basic (50 Mbps): 1 TB (1,024 GB) monthly data allowance.
  • Nova Plus (300 Mbps): Unlimited data.
  • Nova Gigabit (1 Gbps): Unlimited data.

Overage Charges (Nova Basic only)

If a Nova Basic account exceeds 1 TB in a billing month, overage is billed at $10 per additional 50 GB block, capped at a maximum of $50 per month (i.e., charges stop after 250 GB of overage; speeds are not throttled).

The first overage in a rolling 12-month period is automatically forgiven as a one-time courtesy. This courtesy is applied automatically by the billing system — support agents cannot apply or promise additional courtesy credits.

Usage Alerts

Customers receive automatic email and app notifications at 75%, 90%, and 100% of their data allowance. Real-time usage is visible in the app under Account > Data Usage. Usage data in the app may lag actual usage by up to 24 hours.

Avoiding Overages

Nova Basic customers who repeatedly exceed 1 TB are usually better off on Nova Plus (unlimited, $55/month) — the difference is often less than recurring overage charges. Support agents may recommend a plan change; upgrades take effect immediately.

What Counts as Data Usage

All traffic to and from the customer's connection counts, in both directions, including streaming, gaming, cloud backups, and smart-home devices. NovaNet does not zero-rate any services.
